Though not one of my cars, I first came across this beautiful example a few years ago in the Karoo where it was parked in a carpeted garage, I quote the description sent to me by the seller:

The car was bought new in October 1980 from KANGO MOTORS, Oudtshoorn. It is one of the very last W116 models sold and is full house with 4 headrests, tan leather interior with matching carpets, air-conditioner, electric windows, electric sunroof, central locking, power steering and 4-speed automatic gearbox. Strangely no speed control . The car has the full wooden treatment on dash and centre console. The colour is Silver-Blue, which was used only on the last of the W116 models, if my information is correct.I am the third owner of the car and I bought the car as my long distance transport on the 17 th of June 2011 from a mister Mauerberger. He is a Merc fanatic and had the car serviced at Tomson Motors in Stellenbosch. He obviously was not stingy with the upkeap of the car and I have invoices for substantial amounts for servicing and replacement of worn items like valve stem seals, waterpump, v-belts, bush gear linkage, track rods, central drag link on the steering system etc. The indicated mileage is 185 500 km at the moment and I bought the car with 166 000 km on the clock.The car still has its owners manual and service record with detailed information from the last owner and myself.

Well, what can I say about the car ? It is obviously in beautiful condition, gets attention from everybody and has been 100 % reliable during its time with me. It is completely rust and accident free and the body and interior is in fantastic condition. During my ownership the car was serviced religiously every 5000 km with Mercedes parts and I replaced the bonnet liner with a new item and the master cylinder kit as well as front wheel bearings and recently 4 new 205/70/14 tyres. The original Becker radio was replaced with a modern radio/cd by the previous owner. The car drives beautifully and was recently taken on a 1800 km round trip to Upington and back with admiration from its owner and his wife for its comfort, reliability and very effective air con. On this trip the drivers side window received a minor chip from a flying stone of grass cutters and a new window was ordered by Mercedes from Germany. It is still in its packaging as the damage is really very small and I did not have the guts to open the pristine door panel. The front windscreen and rubber was replaced in January 2014, since the original windscreen had a small chip from previous ownership. I have used the car carefully as I mostly use my 123- model for work.
